I was finding the upkeep of weekly The Weekend posts a bit much (I’ve actually still got the last two to write :/) so I’ve decided after doing them for a year to switch to monthly roundup posts instead. On the first Saturday of the month expect a bumper sized post with everything I’ve been up to during the previous one!
So, September, September, September. What a month!I headed to Heathrow on the afternoon of the 1st where I met up with some friends for dinner at The Pheasant and spent the night at the Premier Inn before our flight to Atlanta the following day!
The next 6 days and nights were spent at the Marriott Marquis for the annual DragonCon convention. This was my third time going and I had the best time! I was able to catch up with old friends, meet some famous faces and cry in the front row of a Battlestar Galactica panel featuring seven of the main cast. It felt both too short and too long but was definitely my favourite so far.
As if flying half way across the world wasn’t enough the morning after I got back to London I hopped on another plane so that I could spend a few days at home in Aberdeen seeing both family and friends. I got to meet this little one for the first time too before heading back to London and work.
My first week back in London was crazy and to be honest it didn’t really end after that! I went to the imax at waterloo for the first time to see a double showing of Star Trek movies Wrath of Khan and The Search for Spock. My jaw literally dropped at the sheer size of the screen and I can understand now what people have been saying about Cineworld not having “proper” imax screens too now. Turns out I’d never actually seen Wrath of Khan before either so that was pretty cool.
I attended a few blogger events that week including Be a Better Blogger as part of Social Media Week London where I picked up some excellent SEO tips, #SoundsOfSennheiser where I won a pair of Sennheiser headphones and the Show me the Money blogger awards (SHOMOS) – a community I knew nothing about but was very pleased to discover. There’s going to be a bit more focus on the money side of Broke in the Big Smoke after I let this slide for a while but don’t worry I’ll still be posting all the other fun stuff I usually do.
It was an excellent month for theatre and I saw the Rocky Horror Show at the Playhouse, Benedict Cumberbatch in Hamlet (after a year of waiting!) and most recently I went to see Proof thanks to #LDNTheatreBloggers. I also went to Disclosure’s album launch which I think was my first ever dance gig – it was a new experience for me and I had an ace time people watching.
I crossed a few restaurants off of my to visit list including Truc Vert, Hakkasan and Chotto Matte where I also discovered the wonder that is the Velocity app but I’m going to have to cut down on eating out so much if I’m going to make the most of the DW Fitness Festive Fitness Challenge I’m taking part in. The first few days went well with me coming in under my calorie goal and going to a Shake It Off inspired dance class. The question is can I keep up with it?
October is already filling up fast and I have something to attend every day until next Sunday which is firmly penciled in as a much needed pyjama day! What did you get up to in September?
