Summer is here! Well not quite but it really should be by now and one of the things that I always look forward to when the weather is that little bit brighter is a good old fashioned picnic. Mercure helped kick start my weekend a couple of weeks ago with a fabulous spread to celebrate both their partnership with National Picnic Week and the launch of the hotels own brand of Perfect Picnic Prosecco!
True to form the heavens opened just before we were due to arrive but ever prepared the team at Somerset House had a special canopied area set aside for us VIPs (Very Important Picnicers) where we were greeted with beautiful hampers full of delicious treats from Tom’s Kitchen to eat and a bottle of the aforementioned prosecco.
The food was totally and utterly divine and I tucked in to a simply gorgeous smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel, delicious homemade houmous with vegetable crisps for dipping and some of the best desserts I’ve had in a very long time – a thick and creamy multilayered chocolate mousse and a passionfruit topped cheesecake.
But obviously the star of the show was the prosecco which was light and sweet without being sickly – I’m not ashamed to say I probably had more than my fair share 😉 which left me a teeny bit tipsy. Especially when you pair this with the fact that we were treated to a wine tasting session with the Saturday kitchen wine experts Susie and Peter!
By the time we had finished the rain had definiutely stopped so we popped back to the courtyard of Somerset House to take in the atmosphere created by the wonderful acapella group who had been hired for the entertainment for the evening.
All too soon I had to pop off so I could make it to my second event of the evening to see Depart but I just want to thank my lovely companions for the night for such a wonderful time; Milly, Erica, Jasmin, Leanne, Angela, Jaclyn and Amanda.
