Pizza Making with Yelp at Pizza Rossa

So after winning the competition to join the Yelp elite at Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen I decided to take a gander at what Yelp actually do. Turns out it’s quite a lot! Yelp is very similar to Zomato but for the fact that you can review any business whatsoever not just restaurants. They also have a very active community with three or four official Yelp events every month and dozens more unofficial ones. This particular event was aimed at us Yelp newbies to let us know more about Yelp, what they do and the sort of events that they run.

Pizza Rossa is a fairly new restaurant borne from the fact that the owner was frustrated at not being able to buy pizza by the slice anywhere in London. Their first venue only opened in July last year but they have already expanded to include a second one at London Wall. They are an authentic Italian restaurant with 85% of their ingredients coming direct from Italy.

Upon arrival at Pizza Rossa we were given name badges and provided with drinks which kept flowing throughout the night. There were no +1’s allowed at this event which was great as it meant that everyone was forced to mingle and I met some really fun and interesting people.

After a brief introduction it was time to get stuck in (pun intended šŸ˜‰ ) and get making our dough. With Pizza Rossa’s secret flour mix, some water, a little bit of oil and salt and of course yeast it took a LOT of kneading to get the dough to actually, well, look like dough! At one point mine definitely looked like pale pulled pork which was not how it was meant to be!

This special recipe means that the resulting dough is suitable for vegans, highly digestible and lower in calories – less than 200 per slice. (Depending on toppings of course.)

While our own dough babies were left to rise we got to taste test some of Pizza Rossa’s flavours. The spicy sausage was REALLY spicy it about blew my head off but the others I thoroughly enjoyed. We even got to take our own dough home with us at the end of the night to make more ourselves!

Huge thanks to Pizza Rossa for having us, I had a really fab night and am looking forward to attending other Yelp events in the near future (and maybe even becoming a Yelp Elite!)
