VIP Shopping Experience at Liberty

A while back I signed up to be a Google City Expert, all that really means is that I write reviews of places I have been in London for Google and in exchange get invited to cool events for the trouble. They occasionally run competitions as well and I was lucky enough to be the winner of a VIP shopping experience at the Liberty department store. Despite being in London for over a year now I had still never been to the store until last Saturday so I was feeling a little nervous about being a bit out of my league.

The store is beautiful in its mock Tudor glory and has been a well-known institute on the London shopping high street since its opening in 1875. My appointment was with Michael in the denim department but the store offers much more than just clothing as our wander around the store proved. I’d asked for an appointment with Michael so that he could help me find the perfect pair of skinny jeans. I don’t know about you but they are the thing I absolutely HATE shopping for. However having Michael help made it a treat. I simply told him what kind of jeans I was looking for and off he popped bring back about a dozen pairs to try on that met my specifications. If I needed a different size he whizzed off to take a look and see if they had it in stock and gave an honest opinion rather than trying to push for a sale.

In the end I was torn between two pairs and actually ended up going for the ones I had liked most from the moment I saw the selection laid out. They’re J Brand high-waisted, skinny, blue denim jeans exactly like I had wanted! The £250 price tag would usually have made me want to cry however my prize was worth an amazing £355(!) so I had more than enough and still some to spare. Not only that but there was an offer on of £50 off when spending £250 or more so I got the discount too leaving me with £155 on my gift card to spend on anything else I want in store.

As we’d talked about how I have a few weddings to attend this summer Michael took it upon himself to take us round the store to see if there was anything that grabbed my fancy which he really didn’t need to do. I must have had about ten dresses to try on by the time we got back to the dressing rooms and again was very honest with his opinions. In the end I decided not to go for any of them as I wasn’t 100% sure of any of them being quite right. We were put under absolutely no pressure to buy and as such Matt’s mum (who I had asked to accompany me for a birthday treat) ended up getting a dress for an upcoming holiday!

We were encouraged to have a wander around the store while Michael wrapped up our purchases beautifully so it was like a gift for me to open when I got home. It was a really excellent day and I cannot recommend Michael, and Liberty’s, service enough. I was never made to feel like I wasn’t rich enough for the store or under pressure to make a purchase – he even told me that he’d helped Zoe Ball find a few pairs of dungarees just the day before!

Thank you Michael, Liberty and of course Google City Experts for a most excellent day! I’ll be back to spend the rest of my gift card and perhaps a bit more soon enough 🙂
