When Mac Met Cheese, Pop Up

Last night after a few drinks with a Twitter friend we headed to the When Mac Met Cheese pop up at The Endurance in SoHo. It was about 9pm when we got there and unfortunately (or not depending on how you look at it) they only had one portion of mac and cheese left!

Slightly disappointed I didn’t want to miss out completely and luckily they still had some Macancinis and Deep Fried Oreos so my companion and I split a portion of each.

The Macancinis were mac and cheese balls made from their Carlos the Cactus type and made with mature cheddar, Parmesan, mozzarella and jalapenos. Everything is cooked to order so these were piping hot when the arrived but that didn’t stop me from digging right in. The inside was deliciously creamy while the outside was crispy and the jalapenos gave it a little kick without being too overpowering. I’m salivating just remembering how good it was!

Then we tucked in to the Oreos at which point the “You’re Scottish, fry something!” quote from Doctor Who came into my head but I have to say these were actually REALLY good. The savoury batter stopped them from being overly sweet and each mouthful was great. I’m really glad I split a portion though, I’m not sure I could have eaten four of these bad boys!

My one criticism would have been the venue as The Endurance gave off a rather dark and dingy vibe (hence the bad photography, sorry guys!) which I felt was all wrong for the brand but as this has nothing to do with the food whatsoever it didn’t really make much difference.

You can follow When Mac Met Cheese on Twitter and they’ll be stationed at The Endurance until Friday so if you get the chance to pop down I would definitely recommend that you do! I’d also recommend that you head down earlier in the day than we did so you’re not left disappointed!
