So as you already know I was at The Monarch on Monday for their Joss Whedon pub quiz and had heard that their food was pretty good pub grub. As such my teammates and I headed there early to test out this statement.
The menu isn’t very big but I still wasn’t sure if I wanted to have the burger and chips or the sausage and mash. At only £7 each they seemed like a bargain and I wanting something yummy and warming to counteract the horrible January weather I eventually settled on the sausage and mash. Grant who was with me at the time also ordered the venison burger and when the girls joined us later they also ordered the pulled pork roll and some cheesy chips.
The food didn’t take long to arrive but somehow it still managed to be a bit on the cold side. Not freezing mind you just not exactly hot either. Add that to the fact that my sausages were well and truly charred it wasn’t a great meal but that didn’t stop me scoffing the lot. The pork apparently wasn’t exactly pulled either but the cheesy chips got the double thumbs up.
Drinks at the Monarch are reasonably priced as well (£4 for a beer and £5.60 for a large glass of wine) so even after a couple you don’t feel as though you’ve been set back too much. In my opinion though it might be a cheap meal it wasn’t a very cheerful one and I probably won’t have food there again. Well… perhaps their chocolate brownie pudding is worth a look…
