When my friend and her boyfriend had a couple of hours to spare as they passed through London on the way for their Summer adventures in France I did a quick Google search to see if there was anywhere near Kings Cross St Pancras that we could grab some cake and a cuppa. The consensus was that Peyton & Byrne (which has a branch inside St Pancras itself) was just the ticket.
With several bakeries and cafes across the capital as well as restaurants within many of the cities iconic museums Peyton & Byrne don’t sell just cupcakes. In the branch we were at they also had a delectable selection of cake slices, fig rolls, carrot cake and other treats as well as “healthy but delicious sweet and savoury muffins”.
Torn between the Lemon Meringue and the Strawberry cheesecake I eventually settled on the latter and I wasn’t disappointed. The frosting was deliciously thick which made up for the cake being a tad on the dry side and the dollop of cream cheese frosting hidden right in the middle was a delightful surprise. The icing really is very sweet and probably not for those who don’t have as sweet a tooth as myself!
