Holy Cupcakes Batman: Primrose Bakery

Primrose Bakery started out in Primrose Hill but they also have a cute little outlet in Covent Garden about a 15 minute walk from my office so I popped along last week to grab a cupcake for this weeks Holy Cupcakes post. Unfortunately I didn’t get a picture of the outside of the building as there was an ugly British Gas van parked outside but luckily the inside is just as lovely!

Unable to decide between chocolate and vanilla (there were a couple of other flavours in the glass counter but not many) I decided to be naughty and go for the chocolate cake with vanilla frosting. As the lovely assistant was boxing up my cake I spotted these treats on top of the counter and could have literally kicked myself with frustration, how good do those rose cupcakes look?!

I’m not a massive lover of chocolate cupcakes as I find them much drier than other lighter sponges but this cake actually impressed me a bit.

IMG_3344 IMG_3345It looks a lot smaller than it was in these pictures for some reason but I can assure you it was a full size cupcake (they do mini ones too) and I think it was also one of the cheapest cakes I’ve tried to date at just £2.25. I munched this at my desk during that 3pm slump and it was a fab pick me up. The chocolate shavings on top were great and it wasn’t too dry especially when combined with the frosting but I have to say that overall it was just an average cupcake and nothing to write home about.
